Rapid DC Motor Solution for Malaysian Steel Rolling Mill

The customer, a fast-growing producer of hot-rolled coils for Southeast Asian automotive suppliers, faced an unexpected breakdown of the 1,800kW main drive motor powering their roughing mill stand. With their first commercial batch scheduled for delivery in 45 days, production downtime threatened to derail both their timeline and credibility.
Challenges
The failed Z800-3B motor – rated at 750V, 600/1000 rpm – required precise torque characteristics to handle the violent load spikes during slab engagement while maintaining ±0.05% speed stability for consistent 8mm output thickness. Local suppliers quoted 16-week lead times for equivalent DC motors, putting the mill’s commissioning at risk.
Challenges
Leveraging our dedicated inventory for steel industry applications, Jiangsu Dongyuan identified a pre-engineered Z800-series DC motor in our Yangzhou warehouse.
